MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Five contested Mobile City Council races produced one major upset. A close race ended Tuesday night with a major victory for District 2’s newest representative, Samantha Ingram.

Ingram was a challenger against incumbent William Carroll and community activist Reggie Hill.

The race quickly became neck and neck between Carroll and Ingram before she ultimately gained enough votes to avoid a runoff.

Ingram says the win is for the people of District 2.

"They are the ones that made this happen," Ingram said. "You know, over the last few months, I had the opportunity to sit in their living rooms, to sit on their front porches, to walk down the sidewalk with them, and they were clear that they were ready for change.
