ROBERTSDALE, Ala. (WKRG) -- A huge upset in Robertsdale sends the mayoral race to a runoff. Longtime incumbent Charles Murphy finished Tuesday's vote in 3rd place, meaning he will not make the runoff.

Ruthie Campbell finished first with more than 35% of the vote. Russell Johnson finished 2nd with more than 31%. Murphy garnered about a quarter of the more than 1,000 votes cast. According to his bio on the city's website, Charles Murphy was first elected mayor of Robertsdale in 1992.

Only 44 votes separated Campbell and Johnson, so the runoff will likely be very close. A total of 339 votes went to the incumbent and 4th-place challenger, Roger Booth.
