MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - Officials announced Wednesday that mosquitoes in Grand Junction have tested positive for West Nile Virus, but there have been no human cases so far this year in Mesa County.
Grand River Mosquito Control District (GRMCD) announced that mosquitoes from two of the 15 sampling pools sent to the Colorado lab came back positive. These were the first confirmed positive pools in Grand Junction this year.
“We are seeing a high number of adult mosquitoes, especially in areas near irrigated fields and drainage ditches. The most recent positive samplings came from the Grand Junction area. However, it’s important that no matter where you live or recreate, you should not let your guard down,” GRMCD District Manager Tim Moore said in a news release.
