NESTUCCA VALLEY, Ore. (KPTV) - On June 17, Nestucca Valley High School’s football team was just beginning their first practice of the summer.

On the field were two new coaches: Head Coach Mike Ward and Assistant Football Coach Frank Elsasser.

Dynamic warmups had just finished, and Elsasser was setting up a play for quarterback Brady Hurliman and other players.

“I was just starting to set up the offense and explain the positions,” Elsasser said. “Then, I said ‘oh coach is a little lightheaded,’ and then pfft. I went down on the turf.”

Hurliman, who had only met the coach once before wasn’t sure what was happening at first.

“Next thing I knew, I was on the spot, and I had to do something to help him because something wasn’t right,” Hurliman said.
