PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence and Pawtucket police are cracking down after a summer surge of dirt bikes and ATVs riding in large groups.
On Saturday, both police departments participated in a joint operation to a planned "ride-out" event involving the illegal operation of dirt bikes, ATVs, E-bikes, and other off-road vehicles that planned to travel through both cities.
Police said during the event, about 100 riders took to the streets, blocking intersections, riding on sidewalks, doing stunts and causing heavy traffic congestion.
As a result, police arrested five adults and one juvenile, and also seized six ATVs.
"The increase in noise and safety complaints caused by reckless ATV and dirt bike riders will not be tolerated," Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien said.
