RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) -- Massive transformations are set for Dorothea Dix Park as Raleigh city leaders unveiled more redevelopment plans Tuesday.

Dix Park is not just Raleigh's gem, but it is also quickly becoming North Carolina's ultimate destination for locals and visitors alike.

Dix Park is the most popular park in the Triangle for many reasons, not just the dog park, Gipson Play Plaza, and trails, but also for events like the Dreamville Festival.

City officials said it is time to upgrade the park with art, sitting areas, coffee bars and more.

"Congratulations, Raleigh, you have the second most visited destination in North Carolina," said Stephen Bentley, director of the Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department.
