GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 14-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized after being hit by an SUV near Jenison High School Tuesday morning, deputies say.

Around 7:48 a.m., the Jenison teen was riding his bicycle on Basswood Street, stopped at the sign at the intersection with Lamplight Drive and then crossed the road, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said. He was hit by a Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 38-year-old Jenison woman who was headed north on Lamplight Drive, according to deputies.

The bicyclist was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries. The driver of the SUV and her toddler passenger were uninjured, deputies said.

The sheriff’s office said speed was not a factor in the crash.
