Grand Central Terminal was plunged into partial darkness Thursday night after a voltage drop disrupted power to the station, briefly trapping several employees in elevators but leaving train service unaffected, officials said.

The blackout began at 8:28 p.m., when lights went out in portions of the facility. According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, power was restored to the terminal’s upper level at 8:53 p.m. and to the lower level by 9:17 p.m.

“No train service was interrupted and operations at Grand Central Madison were unaffected throughout,” Tim Minton, an MTA spokesman, said in a statement.

No injuries were reported, he added.

Five Metro-North Railroad employees were briefly stuck in elevators during the outage.
