A major airline has been forced to cancel all flights as it has announced operations have been ceased.

Fly Play, an Icelandic low-cost airline which once carried out journeys within Europe and to North America, has revealed it will no longer be ferrying passengers around the globe.

The airline made the shock announcement today (September 19), with the group advising travellers check for flights with other airlines.

A spokesperson wrote on the website: "Dear passenger, Fly PLAY hf. has ceased operations, and all flights have been cancelled.

"We kindly advise you to check flights with other airlines. Some carriers may offer special “rescue fares” considering the circumstances."
