GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WATE) — The Gatlinburg Bypass has reopened after crews worked for days to remove debris left behind by a landslide over the weekend.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced on Tuesday that the road had reopened after crews removed more than 140 truck loads of debris from the road. Crews also cleared adjacent ditches, drainages, and a culvert that were filled during the landslide.
Around noon on Saturday, the landslide occurred along the Gatlinburg Bypass near the Great Smoky Mountains entrance sign. The park said the slide came after 3.47 inches of rain fell between 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. It covered approximately 150 feet of the road with 1- to 4- feet of debris.
