LIHUE (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Kauai Bus and Masabi announced a new payment method for bus riders Monday.

Riders can now pay for their bus fares with contactless credit or debit card taps on any Kauai Bus, or with their mobile wallet through features such as Apple Pay or Google Pay.

The new payment method follows the introduction of mobile ticketing launched in January this year, followed by Account-Based Ticketing (ABT) with the Holomua smartcard in May.

The County of Kauai said mobile payments make it easier for both visitors and residents, and speeds up boarding while lowering operational costs.

“This rollout is about more than technology. It is about making public transit more accessible, efficient, and rider-friendly for residents and visitors alike,” said Masabi CEO Brian Zanghi.
