PEORIA, Ill. (WCIA) -- It has been one year and three months since a Sangamon County Sheriff's Deputy shot and killed Sonya Massey in her Springfield home. The trial starts Monday, and there are extra security measures being put in place in Peoria.

Sean Grayson's trial was moved after concerns of an impartial jury in Springfield. WCIA 3's Brandon Merano will be in Peoria for the duration of the proceedings.

On July 6, 2024, Sonya Massey made a 911 call around 12:30 a.m., requesting that officers respond to her home after hearing what sounded like someone "banging on the side of [her] house." At 12:50 a.m., deputies were called to her house.
