BELMONT COUNTY, OH (WTRF) - In Belmont County, Sheriff James Zusack wants kids of all ages to enjoy Halloween safely.
He says parents of young children need to accompany them.
They need to ensure that their child is easily visible, either wearing bright colors or a lighted costume.
And parents and kids need to watch for traffic at all times.
Try to stick in your neighborhoods, people you know and trust. And get the candy that way. And I know Belmont County has a lot of trunk-or-treat events, numerous ones. Those are good events to go to. They're safe. Usually, a lot of participants are there to hand out candy."
Always walk on sidewalks or lighted paths. Cross streets only at corners or on crosswalks. And put away all electronic devices.
Don't be a distracted trick-or-treater!
