SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — The family of the Smithfield High School student who was allegedly targeted in an antisemitic hazing incident has contacted the police, 12 News has learned.
Smithfield police confirmed the family spoke with officers Monday and a report was taken, though no criminal complaint has been filed at this time.
A spokesperson for Attorney General Peter Neronha said Tuesday his office was aware of the allegations but had no further comment.
It follows an investigation by school officials into alleged "hazing and antisemitic remarks" involving members of the Smithfield High School football team. School leaders have been under fire for days over their handling of the incident.
