SIR has started in 12 states and union territories of the country from October 28
The Election Commission’s announcement of a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list across 12 states and union territories has rolled out across the country.
Chief Ministers of Kerala and Tamil Nadu have come out strongly against the move, calling it undemocratic and potentially discriminatory.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday termed the decision a "serious threat to democracy," questioning the timing of its rollout while the constitutional validity of the Bihar SIR is still pending before the Supreme Court.
"It is not appropriate to implement SIR in other states while the issue is under judicial consideration," he said.
