A Detroiter who fatally shot an intoxicated firefighter from Rochester Hills and then was granted a new trial after the state’s Court of Appeals overturned his conviction citing trial court error, opted out of going before another jury on Tuesday, pleading no contest.

In exchange for his plea to voluntary manslaughter, prosecutors dismissed the two other charges Terell Josey was convicted of three years ago — carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.

The case against Josey unfolded following a reported road rage incident in Oakland County that led to the death of Francis “Frank” Dombrowski, a lieutenant with the Detroit Fire Department. Josey went on trial in Oakland County Circuit Court in 2022 charged with open murder, which gave jurors the option of considering first-degree murd
