BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Questions still remain tonight after a massive fire destroyed four buildings in Birmingham’s Five Points South Friday morning.
Firefighters worked to put the fire out for more than 12 hours, which closed part of 20th Street South for hours and left 19 people without a home.
Birmingham firefighters officially ended fire watch operations, but some streets are still blocked off due to hazards from damaged buildings.
One couple who lived in one of the buildings damaged in the fire said they watched their home burn on a livestream. Emily Slawson and Lawrence Schultz told WVTM 13 that it was their first apartment together as a couple, and they had many memories shared inside. Now, everything they grew to love about this place is gone.
