Daniel Israel Vasquez grew up in the Toledo area, and retired from the United States military roughly a decade ago.

He started out in the Marine Corps in 1998, and after almost 10 years he came back to Toledo to join the 180th Fighter Wing, a unit of the Ohio Air National Guard, for around four years before going active duty Air Force and then retiring.

The veteran also served as a food service officer during his time in the military, and said it was common to serve meals like made-to-order omelets, fresh-off-the-grill burgers, and a rotation of different main entrees and sides.

“They’re very comprehensive, and oftentimes they’re sufficient and quite good,” he said of the military dining halls. “The menus and the offerings have evolved from my experience.”
