PORTLAND, Oregon — After a nine month pause to increase shelter bed capacity, the City of Portland resumed enforcement of its public camping ban on Nov. 1.
Portland Police began conducting targeted enforcement of the public camping ordinance, with emphasis on connecting people to shelter and supportive services, according to Mayor Keith Wilson's office.
The city shared data collected during its first five days of enforcement. Between Nov. 1-5, Portland Police contacted 101 people at 57 campsites. They found 81 people were in violation of the camping ordinance meaning they were in the public right of way or had trash or personal belongings extending more than 2-feet outside their tent.
