BELTON, Ky. (WFIE) - Those with Union Ridge Community Church are picking up the pieces after a fire engulfed a fixture of the community.
The following afternoon, the building was still on fire.
Pastor Derrick Cobb says he was happy nobody was hurt, and he is already focused on rebuilding.
“As heartbreaking as this is, that we’ve lost our building, in reality this is just a building. It can be replaced,” Cobb stated.
Cobb says it was hard for crews to put the fire out because a strong wind overnight kept re-igniting it.
He says the church was built back in the 1800s.
He said it was vacant for about a decade until he started his congregation earlier this year, moving into the church only 3 months ago.
Since they started meeting, the group has doubled, going from 20 to about 40.
