MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A Wisconsin photographer volunteered to ride along with the Badger Honor flight last Saturday to document the momentous day for veterans.
She had no idea that it would be such a life-changing day for her as well.
“It’s Barack Obama,” Shalicia Johnson said.
When the plane landed in Washington D.C., the volunteers and veterans were welcomed by the former United States president .
Johnson thought quickly, and began to take photos and videos.
She said President Obama has long been an inspiration to her, and a leader she felt represented by.
“It hasn’t been a joyful time for people with brown skin,” Johnson said. “That’s part of why I feel so deeply about this experience because it was joyful, and we haven’t had that.”
Johnson said she has not been able stop thin
