MARYVILLE, Tenn. — Vice President JD Vance has been checking in on a police officer who was seriously hurt while working his motorcade last Friday.

Officer Justin Brown is still in "critical but stable condition." He's been making small improvements, and his doctors are figuring out the next steps in his treatment, according to Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp.

Crisp said Vance reached out to the Maryville Police Department the night of the crash and has stayed in touch, asking about how Brown is doing. The vice president wants to speak with Brown once he's recovered enough, Crisp said.

"We know that this community cares deeply about how he is doing. We are encouraged with the progress he makes each day. He is alert, talking, and is in good spirits," Crisp said.
