PC Scott Thompson outside Manchester Magistrates' Court

This is the Merseyside Police officer who is accused of causing a 22-year-old woman’s death after she was hit by a car. Rachael Louise Moore died when she was struck by a marked police vehicle as she crossed Sheil Road in Kensington on Christmas Eve 2022.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed last week that PC Scott Thompson had been charged with causing her death by careless driving . The 32-year-old, of Truro Road in Wavertree , appeared before Manchester Magistrates’ Court this morning, Monday, in order to face this count.

Appearing in the dock wearing a black suit over a shirt and tie and sporting short dark hair and a beard, he spoke to confirm his name, address and date of birth before pleading not guilt
