GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro officials are inviting residents to provide input on the selection of the city’s next police chief.

Community feedback sessions have been scheduled in December to gather resident perspectives on the qualities they want in the department’s new leader.

The meetings will take place:

Wednesday, Dec. 3, 6–8 p.m. at Leonard Recreation Center, 6324 Ballinger Rd.

Thursday, Dec. 4, 6–8 p.m. at Brown Recreation Center, 302 E. Vandalia Rd.

The city said it has hired executive search firm Developmental Associates to lead the national search for a replacement for Police Chief John Thompson, who announced his retirement in February 2026 after 23 years of service. The firm will also gather input from Greensboro Police Department employees.
