A prominent anti-immigration campaigner has been charged with assault following a disturbance in a Kent market town. Harry Hilden, 29, is also accused of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour during an incident in Faversham on Sunday night (November 23).

It is understood the reported confrontation was linked to the removal of England flags from lampposts.

Justin Ford, 67, of South Road, Faversham, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article in a public place in connection with the same incident.

Police were called to Love Lane, near the town's cemetery, at about 9.35pm following reports of a disturbance. Officers attended and two men were arrested at the scene. No serious injuries were reported.
