A major incident has been declared in Southall as around 150 firefighters battle a significant fire at a warehouse and retail space on Bridge Road. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) received reports of the blaze shortly before 9am, with flames rapidly engulfing the two-storey structure, which is believed to contain fireworks and gas cylinders. Witnesses reported hearing multiple explosions, with one resident stating, "The explosion was going on every 10 seconds half an hour ago. Explosion after explosion." The LFB has confirmed that three-quarters of the building is currently ablaze, prompting crews to withdraw to a safe distance and fight the fire from above using turntable ladders. Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne, the Brigade's Incident Commander, explained the decision to declare a major incident was made due to the hazardous materials stored within the building. He stated, "Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire safely under control. This will be a protracted incident with crews continuing firefighting operations throughout the day." A large plume of thick smoke is visible across West London, leading the LFB and Ealing Council to advise residents in the vicinity to keep their doors and windows closed. Local schools have also been closed early as a precaution. Traffic disruptions have been reported, with Bridge Road closed in both directions and public transport, including the 427 bus route, diverted. The London Ambulance Service has confirmed that no injuries have been reported among the public or emergency personnel, although a Hazardous Area Response Team is on-site. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the LFB has received approximately 60 calls regarding the incident. Fire crews from Southall, Heston, Ealing, and nearby stations are actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Local business owners have expressed concern over potential losses, with one estimating damages exceeding £10,000. The situation is ongoing, and updates will continue to be provided as more information becomes available.
