CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Steve Carignan is set to retire in January 2026 after over 26 years as the executive director of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa.

Carignan has been instrumental in transforming the center into a premier venue for the Cedar Valley and beyond since its opening in 2000. His leadership expanded programming and community engagement, solidifying its cultural significance.

“Through his steady leadership, creativity and commitment to excellence, Steve has shaped not only a building, but an experience that has inspired generations,” Mary Black, dean of UNI’s College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences, said.
