BAY CITY, MI – The Bay City Commission has appointed lifelong resident Katie Doyle as its new 3 rd Ward Commissioner, finally filling the vacant seat.

The seat has been vacant since former 3rd Ward Commissioner Andrea Burney-Obershaw resigned in August . Doyle’s term on the commission will end in December 2026.

Burney-Obershaw resigned as commissioners prepared to potentially censure her and seek legal action against her in response to allegations that she violated the city charter. She began serving on the commission in 2023 after being elected to the position.

The commission voted unanimously to appoint Doyle to the seat during a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 24.
