A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday at 1:55 p.m. for lake effect snow bands until 5 p.m. for Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Tioga, Broome, Delaware and Sullivan counties.

"Ongoing lake effect snow bands will continue into the afternoon and early evening hours. If traveling, watch out for rapidly changing conditions including slippery roads and low visibility. Additional snow amounts will be up to 2 inches locally by sunset. This amount of snow is enough to cause slick spots, especially at higher elevations. Some blowing snow may occur as well, with gusts to 35 mph," according to the weather service.
