A woman was hospitalized in critical condition early Sunday after being shot by police officers in an incident that, officials said, unfolded along Eire Avenue in the Hunting Park section of North Philadelphia.
According to police, the shooting happened after officers responded to a report of a person with a gun along the 900 block of West Erie Avenue at about 4:11 a.m. on Sunday.

At that time, officials claim, the responding officers encountered a 35-year-old woman who had a firearm held to the right side of her head.
After issuing commands for her to drop the weapon, officials said, the officers used a taser on her, but it had no effect.
