EVANSVILLE — The insurance company representing a popular Downtown local restaurant that caught fire in 2024 is suing the city over actions taken by the Evansville Fire Department.
Illinois Casualty Company filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Evansville on Tuesday, Nov. 25, alleging the fire department left the scene of a fire at Madeleine's on Dec. 26, 2024, after mistakenly determining the fire was extinguished.
The Courier & Press has reached out to the city seeking comment. City spokesman Joe Atkinson said the city has no comment.
The fire at Madeleine's, 423 SE Second St., encompassed two calls. As reported by the Courier & Press at the time, the fire department responded to calls for a fire on the second floor of the building at 10:36 p.m. EFD said that fire was extinguish
