At 58 years old, Glenn Annetts experienced his first Pittsburgh snow Tuesday — and his first significant snow, period.

It was a far cry from the nearly 80-degree weather back home in Queensland, Australia.

Mr. Annetts was visiting family in Bloomfield when a massive storm system that stretched from the Northeast to the Gulf Coast blew through Pittsburgh, blanketing the region with up to 5 inches of snow, snarling the morning commute and forcing school districts to either close or operate under two-hour delays.

As snow continued to fall midmorning, Mr. Annetts found himself inside a winter wonderland at Arsenal Park in Lawrenceville with his son-in-law, Taylor Brown, 34, and granddaughter, Poppy Brown, 9.
