GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Teachers and staff in Grand Rapids Public Schools could see raises ranging from $2,000 to more than $10,000 under a tentative two-year contract agreement announced by district and union officials Tuesday night.

The deal between Grand Rapids Public Schools and the Grand Rapids Education Association includes what officials are calling historic wage increases for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. The agreement must still be ratified by both the Board of Education and GREA members before taking effect.

The contract represents an $10.4 million investment in educators, an 11.8% increase over current spending, according to district estimates. Individual raises vary based on years of service and education level, with employees receiving retroactive pay to the beginning
