Warren Williams, recognized as one of Australia’s first rock singers, died at 85 following an illness, his family announced.

Williams Jr., the musician’s son, shared news of his father’s death Saturday in a Facebook post paying tribute to the performer’s character and legacy.

“A most humble, kind and quiet man who taught me so much about being a good human. One of the greatest singers and performers of his time,” Williams Jr. wrote. “The memories of growing up by his side will always be there. RIP Dad, we will all miss you.”
