A cat had to be put down after he was blasted with an air rifle. Three-year-old Mac was seen limping on November 1, and was unwell the following day. He was taken to the vets as he wasn't himself and was not going to the toilet.

When scanned at the vets an air rifle pellet was found. Mac was operated on at the vets where the air rifle pellet was recovered, but it was found that the pellet had gone through his bladder and had caused an abscess.

Because of the seriousness of his injuries he was later put to sleep. RSPCA animal rescue officer Lucy Welch, who is investigating the incident, said: "Our hearts go out to Mac’s owner and we are very sorry to hear this has happened.
