RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - Richmond’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities announced that they’re scaling back on RVA Illuminates this Friday due to weather.

The official holiday lighting at Kanawha Plaza will still happen, but any scheduled performances that day will be cancelled.

12 On Your Side’s First Alert Weather team says we’re expecting to see our first snow of the season on Friday, Dec. 5 starting shortly after midnight and continuing through the morning.

Temperatures in the afternoon Friday only climb into the low 30s. Limited melting will happen, so icy/slushy conditions likely all day then into Saturday morning.

For that reason, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for much of the area from 1am Friday until 1am Saturday.
