OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) -- For most kids, the school day isn’t complete without some time on the playground.

This year, one Westside elementary school is debuting a site that’s brand-new.

There’s a new playground at Rockbrook Elementary. One fourth-grader, Olivia McMeekin, said it’s much needed.

“The old one, I’ve played on since I was in kindergarten, and I just wanted a new playground,” Olivia said.

Principal Garret Higginbotham said in the 12 years he’s been at Rockbrook, the old playground wasn’t touched.

The project is part of a $121 million bond vote passed in 2023.

“It was going to be important as we added a new gym and some early childhood spaces to combine our playgrounds in a space that kids from kindergarten through sixth grade could enjoy together,” Higginbotham said.
