TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - We’re getting a new look at the impact of budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health for students in Alabama.

A University of Alabama professor says the cuts are hurting some of his students looking to continue their education.

Dr. Guy Caldwell is a long-time research professor at the University of Alabama. Dr. Caldwell says some of his students have gotten into PhD programs at other universities, but those applications have been rescinded because of those federal cuts.

“Every 65 seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease,” said Dr. Caldwell on a Tuscaloosa radio station.

With that medical fact, Caldwell crystalized his frustrations on radio station Catfish 100 in Tuscaloosa.
