(FOX40.COM) — A 26-year-old man from Citrus Heights and a 28-year-old woman from Richmond were injured in a crash that was allegedly a result of street racing in Modesto, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP said officers responded to reports of a crash around 1:05 p.m. on Highway 99, north of Beckwith Road.

Officers arrived to find a Chevrolet Corvette overturned on Sisk Road, South of Vintage Drive.

The 26-year-old driver was ejected from the car and suffered major injuries, while the 28-year-old passenger was left with minor injuries.

The investigation determined that the driver was involved in an illegal street race with a Ford Mustang at speeds over 100 miles per hour, CHP said.
