BRISTOL, Va. (WJHL) - United Way of Bristol Tennessee and Virginia leaders say they are here to help after noticing a spike in numbers for people who need assistance.
President and CEO of the United Way Lisa Cofer said she especially has noticed a rise in assistance needed during the month of August once back to school season began.
"Parents are spending their money on the things that kids need," Cofer said. "It takes away from them being able to pay their rent or utility fees and other things."
Cofer said they provide three different types of financial assistance for struggling families, which includes things such as transportation, help with utilities, rent, food and assistance in unexpected costs.
