A 188-unit multifamily development in South Mountain received approval from the Phoenix Planning Commission last week. The issue goes to city council for final approval.

The commission recommended for approval a general plan amendment and rezoning for the 14.4-acre property west of the northwest corner of 19th Avenue and Baseline Road, changing it from designated for farm use and low-density housing to multifamily housing.

Brian Greathouse, lawyer for the homebuilder Taylor Morrison, noted the project is not a traditional multifamily building or complex. It is a brand under Taylor Morrison called Yardly that rents one- and two-story houses. Plans show buildings will vary between four-plexes, duplexes and single-unit buildings.
