SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Congressman Richard Neal visited Springfield on Friday to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Social Security.
During the celebration, Neal expressed confidence in the longevity of Social Security, comparing current challenges to those faced in 1983, which the program successfully overcame.
"I know what Roosevelt meant to their homes. They felt that Roosevelt gave them a shot," Neal said, highlighting the historical significance of Social Security.
Neal joined representatives from the Mass Retirees Association to celebrate the milestone with a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony.
