Emmerdale has faced a barrage of Ofcom complaints from outraged viewers.
The broadcasting watchdog has disclosed that the ITV soap received 279 complaints following last Tuesday's (August 12) episode.
Disturbing scenes showed V inny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) suffering a homophobic assault from a character called Mike (Macaulay Cooper) after they met online.
An Ofcom spokesperson stated: "Complaints objected to violent and sexual content before the watershed."
Vinny had opened up to Mike about feeling uncertain regarding his sexuality, thinking the stranger was experiencing similar struggles, reports the Daily Star .
Mike's real motives were exposed when he attacked Vinny and extorted £10,000 to keep quiet about revealing his doubts to fiancée Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham).
