LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The $38 million construction of a Community Care Campus is underway in Louisville’s Smoketown neighborhood.
The project is intended to shelter and transition the city’s homeless into permanent housing.
“It is going to be…just gorgeous,” Volunteers of America Housing Services Director Tamara Reif said. “Lots of green space, lots of safe spaces for folks to be able to walk around who live here, who work here.”
The first portion of the Campus is a $6 million family shelter, due for completion in spring 2026.
“We will be able to house families who are currently waiting for a space to open up, who are living in their cars with their children,” Reif said. “Currently, today, there are probably 10 to 12 families that sleep in their cars that are just waiting for space
