The National Weather Service issued a report at 8:48 p.m. on Sunday for strong thunderstorms until 9:30 p.m. for Chemung County.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and marble-sized hail (0.5 inches) are predicted.

"At 8:48 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Sylvania, or 7 miles northwest of Troy, moving northeast at 30 mph," adds the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible."

Locations impacted by the alert include Chemung, Southport, Sayre, Waverly, Athens, Ridgebury, Troy, Springfield, South Waverly and Wellsburg.
