ANN ARBOR, MI — Ann Arbor firefighters responded over the last few days to a fire and two concerts with safety issues as students returned for the 2025-2026 school year.

“Several serious incidents occurred over the weekend, setting a concerning tone for the start of the fall semester,” the Ann Arbor Fire Department reported Monday in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted.

The fire department, starting Friday, Aug. 22, responded to an intentionally set fire and unpermitted concerts that failed to address basic fire safety protocol, according to the fire department.

Crews responded right before 10 p.m. Friday to the 900 block of Greenwood for a mattress set on fire in the road, the fire department reported.
