ALLEGAN COUNTY, Mich. — Part of southbound US-131 in Wayland Township is closed due to a crash that has injured multiple people, according to the Allegan County Sheriff's Office.

Allegan County Dispatch started receiving reports of a multi-car crash around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. It happened near Mile Marker 59. It is not clear what led up to the crash at this time, but investigators say speed is believed to be a factor.

Authorities say multiple people were injured.

The passing lane is currently closed, according to the sheriff's office. The highway is also closed at Mile Marker 61 for cleanup. Drivers are asked to avoid this area of southbound US-131 while crews work.
