LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police held a special recruitment event on Tuesday, aimed at drawing more women into the agency.

A little more than two dozen women attended, learning more about the application process, police academy and what it’s like to be an officer.

Out of LPD’s 362 sworn officers, there’s currently 55 female officers, making up 15% of the force. The department is currently taking part in the 30x30 initiative aimed at increasing female representation in recruiting classes to 30% by 2030.

Chief Michon Morrow also attended, meeting some of the aspiring recruits. After 30 years with the department, she said any female who joins LPD’s ranks has the opportunity to excel.
