SPOKANE, Wash. — Washington House Bill 2118, which establishes additional requirements for the business operations of licensed firearms dealers, went into effect in July.
HB 2118 was introduced by Washington Democrats including Representatives Amy Walen, Liz Berry, Tana Senn and several others. According to the bill’s co-sponsors, the legislation, which is titled "Protecting the Public from Gun Violence by Establishing Additional Requirements for the Business Operations of Licensed Firearms Dealers," aims to prevent theft, straw purchases, and other illicit activities involving firearms.
The bill passed with party-line votes in both chambers before being signed into law by Governor Jay Inslee in March 2024.
