HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - Millions of packages are stolen from people’s doorsteps every year, police warned.

They said November to January is peak season for thieves.

In Hartford, police created a Package Theft Task Force to hold them accountable.

Officers said they are going undercover to pose as delivery drivers. They’re leaving bait packages in neighborhoods that have had issues with this in the past.

They don’t want to reveal all their secrets and strategies.

However, they told Channel 3 that they’re after people who are usually repeat offenders.

Police said there were more than 50 packages stolen during peak season in the city in 2023 and more than 40 last year. So far, eight were taken this year.
